Microsoft has just launched a new version of its Security Essentials 18.104.22.168, comes with both x86 and x64 builds and is compatible with all Windows versions, including Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and unofficially Windows 8 (by First Ever Mod). Updates for the anti-virus software will be delivered through Microsoft Updates KB2804527, but it doesn’t work on Windows 8. The following tutorial shows you how to install it on Windows 8!
Why Microsoft Security Essentials?
This is not an official updater! The MSE files have not been modified!
It supports Windows 8 RTM build 9200, but may work with older versions too.

INSTALLATION GUIDE (for Windows 8 only!)
Step 1 – If Microsoft Security Essentials 4.1.522.0 is installed on your system, uninstall it by using my uninstaller otherwise go to Step 4.
Step 2 – Download/unpack and double click on a “MSE_unregister.reg” file.
Step 3 – Open: “Control Panel” -> “Programs” -> “Programs and Features”
Uninstall (Remove Only): “Microsoft Security Essentials”
Step 4 – Download the official MSE Beta Installer (x64 or x86):
Step 6 – Download and install the unofficial MSE 22.214.171.124 Installer (x64 or x86), run this program as an Administrator.
Step 7 – To prevent false detection of MSE 126.96.36.199 in Windows Update List, please download/unpack and double click on a “MSE_register.reg” file.
Step 8 – Open Microsoft Security Essentials and update the virus definitions. A further update (virus definitions) will be provided automatically by Windows Update.
The program allows you to activate the ReFS (Resilient File System) in Windows 8. Supported versions of Windows 8 are RTM (build 9200), Release Preview (build 8400), Consumer Preview (build 8250), only for 64-bits.
You are using this software at your own risk, we do not take responsibility for any damages to your system, but we do not believe it can harm anyone anyway.
If you want to be able to remove the ReFS, before its activation, create a restore point.
This version works only on Windows 8 x64 (64-bit)! Please do not install it on Windows 8 x86 (32-bit) and wait for the fix!
First of all I would like to apologise for the delay in releasing new version of my tools. All should be ready in a week (fingers crossed).
File currently being uploaded: Microsoft Security Essentials 4.0.1512.0 Beta (original version from Microsoft). Now you can install MSE Beta on Windows 8 RTM but in the next few days I share my latest Modded installer MSE 4.1.522.0.

There is a new pool: “Which antivirus for Windows 8 do you prefer?”
